BT extends partnership with NetApp

October 8, 2017

BT has chosen NetApp to provide the storage infrastructure for a new Virtual Data Centre (VDC) aimed at mid-sized and larger businesses.

Rather than providing tailored hosting arrangement, the VDC offers a pay for use platform that will allow companies to buy the exact capacity they need.

The deal extends BT’s existing relations with NetApp, which already supplies equipment for BT’s data centres.

Under the terms of the latest deal, NetApp’s storage systems and virtualisation software will be integrated into a blade service architecture.

This will allow BT customers to have their infrastructure and Windows-based applications in operation on the VDC in just five days, while existing VDC customers will be able to deploy a virtual server in as little as 15 minutes.

Martin Cooper, global technical account manager for BT at NetApp said: “BT VDC will provide a reliable, resilient and lower–cost alternative to in-house data centres, conventional, single tenancy outsourcing and one-size-fits-all hosted services”.

NetApp has been busy in the US as well, officially opening its new energy-efficient dynamic data center at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.

The new facility will carry out research into creating and improving storage efficiency and cloud-enabling technologies.
